So This Is How It’s Going To Be…
This was the actual front page of the “liberal” New York Times on Friday:
The headline about “Jubilant Democrats” is sitting atop a picture of Nancy Pelosi presiding over a gaggle of small children. The implication here, whether the reader is aware of it on a conscious level or not, is that the “Jubilant Democrats” are just children compared to their predecessors, reinforcing the ridiculous canard that the Republicans are the party of grown-ups.
These things really do matter. And this is the New York Times. We have a right to expect better.

Hey You – I LOVE LOVE LOVE your blog. It’s awesome. Now I don’t know that I’d cry right-wing conspiracy over the Pelosi pic, but I dig that YOU are…
Hugs,
DeLisa :-)

DeLisa, thank you so much for reading my blog! Hopefully, it can begin to undo the years of brainwashing that the corporate-owned media have clearly instilled in you.
Uh oh, the voices are back. Gotta go…

Sorry, I’m not seeing conservative bias there (and I see it damned near everywhere). I was struck, actually, by the jubliant all-American nature (children, the prominent flag) of the photo, accompanying smaller, un-illustrated stories about the horrific failures of the party in power.
Am digging the blog, however . . .

Hey, thanks to both of you for reading and for your comments.
And I respect you both immensely, but I honestly don’t see how either of you could look at that headline over that photograph and not see it as a swipe against House Democrats. I don’t have a problem with either the headline or the photograph; it’s the way they are juxtaposed together in the layout.
Somebody help me out. Ro, are you still out there?

i kinda thought of it as “finally, a politician finally who is acknowledging a often-overlooked group: kids!” now maybe we can better address education issues and start a do-over on NCLB?

I think that was the idea, and why the Democrats staged this photo-op. And I do like both the picture and the message it sends.
I do hope the new Congress revisits education. And I agree that No Child Left Behind has been more of a harm than a help. Somebody should blog about that!
